Have a Holly, Jolly, Mishap-Free Holiday

November 29, 2018

From charity events with decked out Christmas trees to extravagant light shows, the holiday season in Atlanta keeps its residents holly and jolly until well past New Year’s. It takes a lot of preparation to make events like Garden Lights, Holiday Nights go off without a hitch, but the Botanical Gardens aren’t the only place where holiday safety is key. Keep your home safe this holiday season with these tips from Clean Environmental Group.

Holiday Safety Tips for Atlanta Homes

  1. boy with lit christmas treeCheck Twice Before You Charge. No, we’re not talking about your shopping habits. When string lights are everywhere and outlets become precious commodities, it’s easy to ignore electrical safety. But before you plug in another strand of Christmas lights, think twice. Invest in surge protectors to increase your plugging power and reduce the danger of plugging in all those lights and kitchen appliances. Never plug more than one power strip or extension cord into a single outlet.
  2. Don’t Spark a Holiday Disaster. Make sure chestnuts are the only thing roasting over an open fire this Christmas. Take care when decorating the mantle (especially if you have curious pets who may knock your decor dangerously askew). Never place live greenery near an open flame. You should also place your Christmas tree and garlands well away from heating vents, which dry the needles and make them more likely to catch fire. If your family lights holiday candles, make sure they’re placed on a flat, stable surface with nothing flammable nearby.
  3. Take Stock of Your Workshop. Around the holidays, we spend hours hauling boxes of holiday decor from attics, closets, and crawl spaces. But these dark, infrequently used storage areas can hide worse things than coal for naughty kids’ stockings. Before moving holiday boxes, check your home storage areas for signs of mold, which likes to grow in dark, damp places.

If your holiday decorating reveals a mold problem in your home, don’t fret. Clean Environmental Group will get your house back on the “Nice” list so your family can enjoy the joy and cheer that comes with Christmas in Atlanta.
