Health Risks

February 3, 2018

You might not think about the quality of the air that you breathe every day, but poor indoor air quality can actually have a negative effect on your family’s health. Whether from mold or asbestos exposure near metro Atlanta, poor indoor air quality can cause respiratory infections and chronic diseases which may pose a threat to your lungs.

Some of the most common sources of indoor air pollution and how to resolve them:

Possible Indoor Air Pollutants

There are a wide variety of hazardous pollutants which can make the air in your home dangerous to breathe. Some of the most common include mold, mildew, and asbestos. Poor indoor, air quality can also be a result of second-hand smoke, combustible gas leaks, formaldehyde used as a bonding agent, or even Radon seeping into a building.

How Common Indoor Air Pollution Affects Health

If you are dealing with mold, asbestos or other common air pollutants, you might experience infections and illness which can limit your ability to live a normal life. Symptoms could range from a simple cough to issues with congestion and a lack of energy. If you find yourself feeling better after leaving the house, there may be a problem with mold or asbestos in your home.

Uncommon Air Pollution Affects Health

Although it may not be likely, it is worth noting that Radon exposure is said to be the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, so testing for such pollutants can be just as important as doing mold testing. Second-hand smoke has also been known to cause lung cancer, making it a dangerous element of the air you and your family may breathe.

Improving the Air You Breathe

If you or anyone in your family are experiencing any of the health related issues detailed above, it is highly recommended to consider mold and asbestos testing. Adopting a new approach to cleaning the items in your home can also help. No matter what your symptoms are, have your home tested to avoid any health concerns.
