Demolition is defined as the act of breaking apart. Dismantling is defined as taking something apart. At Clean and Green Environmental PSG we are proficient in the demolition and dismantling of structures large and small. We are a third generation contractor with a vast knowledge of how buildings are put together and more importantly how to safely take them apart. Since the beginning of civilization people have demolished structures to make way for new ones, to rehabilitate existing buildings and re-use materials salvaged from existing structures. When demolition occurs it is usually a sign of coming growth, expansion or renewal.
Demolition has evolved from the old wrecking ball days to a very scientific and carefully orchestrated event. The process now involves site investigations, analyzing building components and development of a formal demolition plan. The overall process must address safely, underground concerns, utilities, access, proximity and protection of other structures, dust and traffic control, clean up, record keeping and more. Some renovation projects and selective interior strip outs call for dismantling of building components in a manner that avoids damage to adjacent components. Often times this delicate work must allow for the continued use and occupancy of other portions of the building. As a true demo contractor we know to run negative air machines to limit the interior dust and to use wetting equipment to control dust. The list of activities we include as standard practices are often completely foreign to our so-called competitors.
Today demolition and dismantling can involve some type of hazardous material removal, transportation, and disposal. Lead, asbestos, PCB’s and other toxins can be present in the building, soils or even underground. These issues must be addressed during the investigative phase of the project as they add significant planning concerns as well as time constraints necessary to prepare and complete a job. At “CLEAN” we and our trade partners are well versed in these activities.
Demolition and dismantling is a process that generates a significant amount of debris. At Clean and Green Environmental PSG, we are concerned about reducing how much of this by-product ends up in landfills as waste. It is our goal to recycle as much as possible. Bricks can be cleaned and re-used. Concrete can be pulverized to be used on site or elsewhere. Wood can be salvages for many other uses and metal can be sold off as scrap. Oftentimes more than 50% of waste can be salvaged. On rare occasions as much as 90% of the debris can be diverted from ending up at landfills.
Clean and Green Environmental PSG is a proud member of the National Demolition Association (NDA) and here to solve all your demolition and dismantling needs. Demolition is our core business not a sideline. We have the experience, tools, and specialized equipment to complete any and all projects. From selective hand demo on a residential remodel, to taking down the entire structures we can get it down right and “CLEAN”!
